Steve Scalise (to Theepochtimes) is an American politician who has served as the U.S. Representative for Louisiana's 1st congressional district since 2008. Born on October 6, 1965, in New Orleans, Scalise is a member of the Republican Party and has become a prominent figure in conservative politics.

 

 

 

 

Scalise's political career began in the Louisiana State Legislature, where he served in the House of Representatives from 1996 to 2008, including a term as chairman of the House Republican Caucus. In 2008, he won a special election for Louisiana's 1st congressional district seat, succeeding Bobby Jindal, who had been elected governor.

 

 

 

 

As a congressman, Scalise has been a staunch conservative, advocating for lower taxes, limited government, and a strong national defense. He rose through the ranks of the Republican Party, eventually becoming the House Majority Whip in 2014, making him the third-highest-ranking member of the House Republican leadership at the time.

 

 

 

 

Scalise gained national attention in 2017 when he was seriously injured in a shooting during a congressional baseball practice. Despite being critically wounded, Scalise made a remarkable recovery and returned to Congress later that year.
